Апстраткт:
Готшалк из Орбеа (око 804–868) био је осуђен за јерес на синодима у Мајнцу и Квирзију (848. и 849. године) јер је заступао доктрину двоструке предестинације, те је последњих двадесет година свог живота провео у заточеништву у Отвилу. Током последњих година његовог живота, а можда и због строге казне која му је била изречена, појавила се још једна слика овог путујућег монаха (monachus gyrovagus). Реч је о бунтовнику, донекле субверзивном у његовој јеретичкој самоодбрани, некоме ко прибегава обманама, обдареног упадљивим карактеристикама, некоме ко најављује своју склоност ка мучеништву, пророковању и неуобичајеним стратегијама религијског аутопортретисања каролиншке ере.

Abstract:
Gottschalk of Orbais (ca. 804–868) was condemned for heresy by the Synods of Mainz and Quirzey (in 848 and 849) due to his doctrine of double predestination, and spent the last twenty years of his life in confinement in Hautvillers. Throughout Gottschalk’s last years, and perhaps due to the severe punishment he had suffered, another facette of this monachus gyrovagus surfaced. The image of a rebellious figure, somewhat subversive in his heretical self-defence, resorting to subterfuge, and endowed with protruding features, announcing the penchant to martyrium, prophecy and some uncommon strategies of religious self-representation for the Carolingian era, came to light.
